A LESSON IN LEARNING DESIGN

Developing an
instructional strategy for professional development

The Digital Badging Adventure project allowed our team to explore the instructional design process, analyzing organizational needs and creating a “train the trainer” session that helps instructional technologists launch a digital badging system within their organization. Our team utilized a Google Hyperdoc to document the process. Click the button below to access the interactive hyperdoc.

SHOW ME!
A NEW AGE OF TRAINING

The Texas
Department of Safety takes forensic training online

As part of an in-house team, I worked with subject-matter experts within the forensic science industry to develop an online training package to be used in conjunction with physical labs. After discussing learner context and organizational needs, the team used Articulate Storyline to develop interactive modules with integrated assessments to deploy in the Blackboard LMS. DPS officers can access the training asyncronously from anywhere to complete training towards their forensic science certificate.

MODULE 2 DEMO
BOOSTING LEARNER CONFIDENCE

Recreating a Photoshop
masterpiece

Quite often, I find myself training teachers in media software that they do not understand. My job is to get them up to speed quickly so that they can effectively teach their students. This course, originally  a TCEA workshop, is currently under construction as a “Train the Trainer” session that will be featured on the Adobe Education Exchange. Recreating The Impossible Shape is not only a step-by-step tutorial, but also explains the concepts behind the actions so that students can quickly grasp advanced Photoshop masking techniques, enabling them to easily pass the Adobe Certification Exam. The Canvas course will be available for teachers to download and deploy within their own Canvas course, or as a stand-alone YouTube playlist. This course will be live on December 15, 2020.

PEEK BEHIND THE CURTAIN
ADAPTING TO COVID 19

SHSU Online converts over
3000 courses to
online delivery

In the 2020 Spring semester, the world of education was transformed. My department suddenly found ourselves in high demand; COVID-19 required us to take all of Sam Houston State University online. This tremendous task quickly overwhelmed many professors, as the Blackboard LMS is less than intuitive. Professors had limited time for training, and many had little to no experience in Blackboard. A needs analysis revealed that professors needed fast, targeted tutorials on specific tasks in the simplest language possible. To accomodate these challenges, I designed a YouTube playlist for common tasks; it has decreased the number of support requests for those simple/repetitive tasks, and the professors appreciate the succint, simple instructions.

MULTIMEDIA SOFTWARE IS MY PASSION

Sharing resources on the
Adobe Education Exchange

I’ve spent over 25 years in graphic design and my love of color, balance and design bleeds into everything I create. My training materials are no exception to this rule; in fact, I believe that my background in media technology gave me an edge over other educators. In my spare time, I create Adobe training products for the Adobe Education Exchange to share my knowledge with others. The ISDT program has given me the confidence to know that my tutorials are rooted in educational best practices and I often recieve positive feedback from the creative tech community.
