LEARNING DESIGN

Student-Centered Learning

Learning design is about the framework; how can we support learning experiences? Deliberate decisions must be made about the content, timing, structure, pedagogy, sequencing of learning activities, assessments, and technology. I believe one of the most important aspects of learning design is that it remains learner-centered; if you do not meet the student where they are, even the best instructional designers will struggle to create effective programs. This concept has remained a central focus in the trainings I’ve created and delivered. When technology is part of that equation, it can create a challenge as many users come to the programs with varying degrees of competencies.

The Power to Create

Of all the aspects in the ISDT program, I enjoy learning design the most. This allows me to combine my educational experiences with my industry skill set in a visual manner, where I am able to flourish. The flexibility of the program has allowed me to use my design skills to create research-based training programs and materials rooted in solid educational principles; this combination of knowledge and design is deeply fulfilling. Along the way, I’ve amassed a large portfolio of research-based training materials.
