EDUCATIONAL SERVICE

BEHIND THE CURTAIN

A summer internship ignited a passion for service.

My internship with ISTE  produced a deeper appreciation for the academic structure that these organizations use to guide their members. While I always volunteered at conventions, I wanted to contibute more. I believe it is important to maintain a robust personal learning network to not only stay informed with the rapid changes in our field, but to also explore new techniques and methods that may be more effective. I’m always looking for innovative and emerging technologies, and the best way to discover these is to network with like-minded professionals.

On a personal note, I also enjoy the enthusiasm and energy of working with others who share my passion; my PLN stretches across the globe, and has lead to many exciting collaborative opportunities. Since my internship, I have continued an active role within several local and national organizations. Below are a few highlights from my service experiences, while a full list can be obtained by clicking the button at the bottom of the page.

ISTE 2020 CONFERENCE REVIEW CHAIR

As a conference review chair, I was responsible for assembling a team of five individuals who would review, rate, and comment on conference proposals. As a cohort, we individually rated each proposal, then conferred on those that would be accepted into the “Creativity” program track at the conference.

Initially planned for summer of 2020 in Anaheim, CA, the conference has been postponed until November 2020, and has moved to a virtual format. The conference team will be recognized at that time.

ISTE CREATIVE CONSTRUCTOR PLANNING COMMITTEE

As part of the CCL Planning Committee, I am part of a team of creativity leaders in the educational field chosen by the ISTE staff. Together, we design the program tracks, event activities, and review proposals for this regional event. I have had the honor of holding this position in both 2019 and 2020.

ADOBE EDUCATION LEADER

Since 2009, I have conducted Adobe classes across the nation, primarily to adult learners. When I stepped into the classroom, I quickly recognized the need for Adobe training among my CTE peers, and set out to create a series of classroom-ready projects. Adobe has recognized me in number of capacities for my value as a product trainer as I continue to help my collegues and students learn their software.

ISTE 2021 PROGRAM CHAIR

As my relationship with ISTE has grown, so have my responsiblities. I have been chosen to represent the Texas/Louisiana region as ISTE begins the planning phase of its 2021 conference in San Antonio. As a Program Chair, I will join a host of other educational leaders to determine which program tracks are currently relevent, and lead a team with a focus on creativity. Additional conference duties are currently being assigned daily, so I am not sure what else I will be responsible for yet.
